This winter some of the popular U.S. ski resorts – Homewood, Alpine Meadows and Whistler Blackcomb start using children GPS tracking devices for their ski and snowboard lesson for kids. Small tracking tags in neoprene pouches help resort security staff to increase safety for children skiing and snowboarding the slopes. Using GPS tracking is included in all children lessons, allowing resort personnel to track a child’s location in real time and pinpoint it immediately.

The controller tags use cellular technology of the Global System for Mobile communications network. This network allows to transmit information, and collect the data at a central server, which enables not only to track a little guest’s location, but also the child’s physical relationship to other skiers or resort staff. GPS controllers also do record real time location, along with other data available after lessons, including number of trails, average speed, total vertical, and the whole distance made.

Insignia offers a child tracking GPS device

If you want to track your kid’s current location, Best Buy’s brand, Insignia, has a new device that can help you. ‘Little Buddy Child Tracker‘ is a very small portable GPS tracker which can be stored into a school backpack. You can then log onto a tracking website and see where your kid is, or receive SMS alerts, if he/she leaves a defined area. So, let’say, it’s some kind of microchipping for dogs, but for kids.

Little BuddyTracker

According to reports, ‘Kinderguard’, a similar service in the UK, which came out there a few years back is doing quite well. However the Kinderguard is a more advanced device that not only allow you to “spy” on your kid, but also measures child’s vital functionss and alerts you, if something is getting wrong.

Where to buy ‘The Little Buddy Child Tracker’

The device is currently on back order at Best Buy for just $99, which makes it much more affordable than similar child tracking GPS units.
